What is the EtO Cliff?
In July 2025, the U.S. government granted a two-year exemption to more than 20% of North American commercial EtO sterilization facilities, temporarily delaying enforcement of strict new EPA emissions rules. But the clock is ticking. By April 2028, all EtO facilities will need to comply with real-time emissions monitoring, advanced control systems, community notification protocols, and major infrastructure upgrades.
The 2027 EtO Cliff marks the regulatory deadline by which EtO-dependent companies must modernize or risk shutdowns, delays, and liability.
